LAPC Day 3 Results

Day 3 of the LA Poker Classic is now in the books, and Kofi Farkye I snow the chip leader.  He has about 700,000 in chips, which is a sizeable lead over a group in the 500,000 chip range.  The day 2 chip leader, Antonio Estandiari, was eliminated during the play on day 3.  There were a host of other world class players eliminated on day 3 as well, including Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu.  Patrick Stemper was the bubble boy on day 3, going down in flames with Q-7 versus pocket 7’s.  The action is sure to heat up on day 4 as players are now into the money.  The first prize this year is a whopping, $1.68 million, with second place taking home almost a million as well.

2002 WCOOP- A Look Back

The WCOOP (World Championships of Online Poker) at Pokerstars has turned into one of the largest poker tournaments in the world. The first year of the WCOOP was in 2002, and the series consisted of nine events. The first ever event of the WCOOP was a $109 buy in limit holdem event which drew 565 entrants. The total prize pool for Event 1 was $56,500, and the champion of the event was fingaz who won $15,537.50. The series concluded with a $1050 buy in event which drew 238 entrants for a total prize pool of $238,000. The Main Event winner was player MultiMarine who took down the first prize of $65,450. The biggest comeback of the series belonged to player michigangirl who was down to just a few chips at the final table. After winning quite a few consecutive all ins she would eventually go on to win Event #4 taking home a prize of $23,677.50

US Poker Championship Underway

The US Poker championship is now underway at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. There are tournaments running daily with buy ins of $300 to $1000, and these prelim tournaments are slated to be completed on October 3rd. There are 20 of these tournaments that are to be held before the Main Event commences on October 5th. The main event is a $10,000 buy in, and has always been one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world with a prize pool often topping $500,000. The 2007 tournament was won by Adam Gerber who took home the first place prize of $606,095. The list of past champions includes Alex Jacob, Toto Leonidas, John Henigan, Men Nguyen, and Daniel Negreanu. Who will be the next name on the list of champions?

Matusow Bests Star Studded Field

Mike Matusow has claimed a bracelet in this year’s WSOP by winning Event #18.  The event was a $5,000 No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball with re-buys.  There were 85 entrants and a total prize pool of $1,735,020 and Matusow took home $537,852.  The event was filled with big name pros as evidenced by a final 10 that included Matusow, Jeffrey Lisandro, Barry Greenstein, Erick Lindgren, Tony G, David Benyanine, and Tom Dwan.  The win gave Matusow his third bracelet and will only help to enhance his image as one of the most widely known players in the world.  Jeffrey Lisandro was runner up in the event and took home $347,004.
